This Farm Foundation® Forum sought to answer these questions while examining potential locally adapted outcome-based approaches that surfaced globally as promising solutions.

As verifiable agricultural sustainability measures gain traction globally, they have the power to transform trade, while also potentially disrupting established rules, negotiations, and policymaking. Strong trade systems can bolster food security and sustainability, but the absence of a unified global framework forces nations to chart their paths. However, critical questions remain: What outcomes should take priority, and how can we standardize metrics globally? How do we enable sustainability and trade without hindering innovation or creating barriers? Can we balance food security, farmers’ livelihoods, and environmental stewardship while avoiding painful trade-offs?

This Farm Foundation® Forum took place via Zoom on Thursday, February 6, at 9 a.m. CT.
