Raymond Yan
Presentation topic: “From Campus to Cropland: The Role of Universities in Food Systems Innovation”
Raymond Yan is a student at Penn State University studying Agricultural and Biorenewable Systems Management and Computer Science Engineering, with a minor in Food and Bio Entrepreneurship Innovation.
His early work on water and drought in Northern and Central California sparked a passion for emerging technologies, a passion further nurtured by the support of Penn State’s agricultural conservation community. Ray co-leads Penn State Nittany AI’s first AI in agriculture research project, using precision imagery to quantify white-tailed deer damage to crops.
He is also a member of Penn State’s chapter of MANNRS and the College of Agricultural Science’s Youth Food Lab in collaboration with the FAO. Ray’s studies focus on the techno-economic analysis of new technologies and the cultivation of entrepreneurship. He hopes to combine his skills in engineering, science, and business to drive new initiatives within agribusinesses or early-stage ventures.
