2013-14 Farm Bill Reading Room
Congressional consideration of a new farm bill has brought passage of a bill by the Senate, the June 20 defeat of the bill in the House, the House’s July 11 passage of a bill absent a nutrition title and multiple questions about what might happen in Conference Committee. All this has Democrats, Republicans and a plethora of food, environmental, agricultural and feeding interest groups busy communicating opinions, viewpoints, and alternatives.
In its role as a non-advocacy organization, Farm Foundation, NFP seeks to inform ongoing discussions by providing a diversity of perspectives on the issues, alternatives and potential consequences of those alternatives.
Perspectives on the 2013 Farm Bill features essays authored by thought leaders in agriculture and rural America. Organized by Farm Foundation, NFP and the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy, the intent is to enrich the public policy by providing ideas and perspectives from a diverse range of thought leaders.
Featured below are resources to gain information and perspectives from a variety of stakeholders on next steps for the farm bill legislation. These resources are in three categories:
Farm Foundation does not advocate or lobby. Inclusion of any item or ideas presented here does not represent an endorsement by Farm Foundation, NFP. The opinions expressed in the articles cited are those of the authors and not those of Farm Foundation.
